Time of Use FAQ’s
Why does OG&E offer a Time-of-Use rate?
The Time-of-Use rate is designed to help both customers and OG&E. Typically, OG&E customers use more electricity between 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer. Time-of-Use customers can save by reducing their electric usage during this peak usage time. The Time-of-Use rate rewards customers for helping OG&E manage its peak demand.
Which customers benefit the most on the Time-of-Use rate?
Customers who have the flexibility to significantly reduce their electric usage from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Typically, customers with swimming pools, saunas and hot tubs and whose summer electric use is 2,000 kilowatt-hours or more per month have been able to benefit the most. Refer to the usage chart on your electric bill to view your monthly kilowatt usage. Customers with a programmable thermostat installed in their home also benefit.
Is there a charge to be placed on the Time-of-Use rate?
Customers are charged a $6 per month meter fee during the four-month Time-of-Use period.
What happens if I fail to reduce my usage during the required time?
OG&E will compare your current bill to both the Time-of-Use rate and the standard summer rate. You will be billed the lesser amount.
How will OG&E know if I reduced my usage during the required times?
When you sign up for the Time-of-Use rate, OG&E will replace the electric meter outside your home with a Time-of-Use meter. You do not need to be home. Your power will be momentarily shut off during the installation.
What happens if I decide to get off the Time-of-Use rate before September?
There is no penalty for getting off the Time-of-Use rate. To be taken off the Time-of-Use rate, contact OG&E at 272-9741 (OKC area) or 1-800-272-9741 (all others).
If I like the Time-of-Use rate, do I need to sign up again next year?
No. You will remain on the Time-of-Use rate until you contact OG&E to be removed.
Are there other ways to save on energy costs?
The OG&E Web site has energy tips and an online home energy calculator to help customers save energy - www.oge.com.
How do I sign up for the Time-of-Use rate?
Call OG&E from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 272-9741 (OKC area) or 1-800-272-9741 (all others).
