Wind
Wind Power is clean, renewable and efficient. Wind also adds balance to OG&E’s energy
portfolio, and wind farms contribute to the development of rural communities in terms
of royalty payments to landowners, as well as property taxes that support local schools,
infrastructure and public safety. Wind power has the potential to help make Oklahoma a
more desirable place to live and do business.
The Oklahoma Wind Power Initiative collaboration between the University of Oklahoma and
Oklahoma State University has identified several reasons why customers may want to choose
OG&E wind power.
The Centennial Wind Farm, which became operational at the beginning of 2007, is one of
the only wind farms to be fully owned and operated by an electric utility. It generates
120 megawatts of wind power that is dedicated exclusively to OG&E customers. The Sooner
Wind Farm from which OG&E purchases up to 50 megawatts of wind power was developed and is
owned and operated by Florida-based FPL Energy.
An Oklahoma wind power newsletter, WinCharger, has commended OG&E for its support
of wind energy development: "We feel it is one of the best programs in the country, and we
hope OG&E is successful in garnering support for it."
