Through partnerships with our customers we balance our responsibility to protect natural resources with our commitment to deliver safe, reliable and reasonably priced power.
In 2009 we set a goal to delay building new incremental fossil-fuel generation until 2020. Part of this goal includes a partnership with our customers: we supply programs to help them become better energy managers – and they enjoy reduced energy costs and help minimize impacts to the environment.
The programs we offer –renewable energy, energy efficiency and smart grid-based energy management tools – have displaced CO2 emissions by more than 500,000 tons to date. Through partnerships with our customers we balance our responsibility to protect natural resources with our commitment to deliver safe, reliable and reasonably priced power.
Smart Grid Tools –Most people associate smart grid with our award-winning SmartHours® program, in which participants saved more than $150 last summer. But our implementation of smart technology also helps customers reduce their environmental footprint with energy management tools like myOGEpower. As part of our smart technology deployment and remote connecting ability, we have avoided driving approximately 3.9 million miles since the program was implemented in 2010.
Energy Efficiency Programs -- Our energy efficiency programs include our weatherization program, Home Energy Efficiency Program (HEEP) and rebates on geothermal systems and insulation for residential customers as well as Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Programs (CEEP/IEEP) for both large and small businesses. These energy efficiency programs have reduced close to 1,300 tons of NOX, 1,800 tons of SO2 and 1.1 million tons of CO2 emissions. Since 2011, OG&E has weatherized almost 15,000 homes and conducted more than 23,000 home energy audits which have resulted in an estimated 240,000 MWh of energy saved.
Through advocacy and education outreach, OG&E supports and promotes: growth and nurturing of environmental awareness in the community; environmental partnerships; public environmental education and promotions; and, heightened environmental involvement by company employees.
