Why is my bill high?
Why is my bill high?

When it's summertime in Oklahoma and Arkansas, it's HOT! Which means it takes more energy to cool your home or business. Changes to your household or daily routine could also impact how much energy you use.

Take these steps to stay in control and keep your bill in check:

•    Even out your bills: Sign up for Average Monthly Billing (known as Levelized Billing in Arkansas) to level out your bills and make them more manageable. Your total annual cost for electricity remains about the same, but your bill will be more consistent each month.
•    Make your property more efficient: Apply for our Energy Efficiency Programs to receive upgrades like caulking, weatherstripping, and HVAC tune-ups. Increasing the efficiency of your home or business can lead to lower bills.
•    Maximize rebates: Explore rebates for home improvements like attic insulation, doors, windows, and more.
•    Change air filters regularly: A clean filter helps your system run more efficiently.
•    Use fans to stay cool: Portable fans help your A/C run less.
•    Install a smart thermostat: Automatically minimize how much electricity you use while you are away.
•    Track your usage: Get personalized tips and recommendations to see where you can adjust with Energy Insights.

You can also save more with SmartHours:

Switch to SmartHours and shift some of your energy use outside of peak hours to take advantage of lower prices during off-peak hours.

SmartHours tips:

•    Pre-cool your home by lowering your thermostat before 2 p.m., when energy is cheaper. Then, raise it by 2 – 4 degrees at 2 p.m.
•    Avoid using large appliances such as the dishwasher, washer and dryer or the oven during the hottest part of the day – between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

We have pricing options that help you manage your bill during peak seasons.

  • Average Monthly Billing (known as Levelized Billing in Arkansas) helps level out the unusually high bills from months of high electricity use. Your total annual cost for electricity remains about the same, but you have the convenience of a more consistent bill each month.
  • Monitor your energy usage closely by switching to SmartHours. Customers can see savings when they change how they use energy and shift their usage outside of peak hours. The more electricity they shift outside of peak hours, the more they can save on their bill. Our SmartHours customers help protect the electric grid and the environment.
