SmartHours™ – Because it’s a SMART Time to Save

Now more than ever, saving on energy for your business, school, church or municipality is a smart move. With SmartHours, you have that power to save, which means you have the power to reinvest in the things that matter most. Switch to our SmartHours program, shift your energy usage outside of peak hours (Monday-Friday, 2-7 p.m.) from June 1 to September 30 and save by paying a lower price the other 19 hours of the day. Take back control of your energy expenses: switch, shift, save - and then reinvest.

It’s as Easy as Switch, Shift and Save

Switch

Switching to SmartHours is the first step toward big and smart savings on energy. Enroll here and put yourself in control of your energy costs. It takes just three easy clicks to save big.

Shift

With SmartHours, you have control over your energy usage and bill. Shift your electricity use on weekdays between 2 and 7 p.m. from June 1 to September 30 and pay a lower price for electricity the other 19 hours, as well as on weekends, Juneteenth, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Save

SmartHours puts you in complete control of your savings. You control your thermostat. You decide all your electricity use. Simple shifts such as pre-cooling your home before 2 p.m., keeping the doors and blinds closed, and delaying cooking or laundry until 7 p.m. can increase your savings.

Savings Tips

  • Pre-cool your business by at least 4 degrees at 11 a.m., then turn up the thermostat in the afternoon at 2 p.m. and you will stay more comfortable during peak hours.

  • Make sure your business is as efficient as possible, so it requires less energy to cool.

  • Turn off lights, computers and monitors when not in use.

  • On high-heat days, use ceiling and floor fans to help circulate air for more comfort.

  • Wait to charge forklifts or stock any refrigerators or freezers during off-peak hours.

  • Shut off unused lights and computers at the end of the day.

SmartHours Pricing

With SmartHours, you are in control of your usage and of your pricing plan. Choose from SmartHours Variable Peak Pricing (VPP) or SmartHours Time-of-Use (TOU). You pay the same low off peak price on both plans.

With SmartHours VPP, the daily on peak price varies between low, standard, high, and critical prices. You can always check our up-to-date SmartHours pricing signal online or receive day-ahead price notifications via email, phone or text through myOGEalerts. On occasion, high energy demand may cause a critical event. While these events are rare, they can occur any time of day, any time of year and can last up to eight hours. OG&E sends critical event notices at least two hours ahead, so you can prepare.

For SmartHours TOU, you pay the same on peak price every weekday from June through September.  When critical events occur, your pricing plan will stay in place.
